The
Central Council of Disabled Persons (CCODP) was founded in 1981 and is
currently operating as a non-government organization in Bandarawela, Sri
Lanka. It was formed by fifteen disabled people and currently services
over 20,000 disabled and under-privileged people throughout Sri Lanka.
To encourage persons
interested to organize as groups for the common development of disabled
people;
To encourage and assist groups
of disabled people to make a voice of their own at National level;
To
introduce the Community Based Rehabilitation programs in the best possible
and most cost effective ways for rural development through regional level
organizations;
Making training
facilities available to help implementers of Community Based Rehabilitation
to render better service to the community.
Identification,
prevention and cure of disabilities;
Facilitate/Encouragedisabled children for school education
and protect their rights;
Training
in appropriate vocations and creating employment;
Improving
community awareness on disabilities and the importance of integrating persons
with disabilities.
The CCODP is registered with
the Registrar of Companies as a non-profit organization (N(a)20) and the
Ministry of Social Services under the Voluntary Services Organizations
Act No. 31 of 1980. It has received Approved Charity status from the Ministry
of Finance and Planning.
Income for the CCODP is generated by
its Enterprises Development Program (EDP) and with donations from philanthropic
organizations. The CCODP has no fixed grants from any GO or NGO.
